The quickest means of moving from one town to another is the flight services. Planes ply between metro towns and many major cities. The network is slowly increasing but the flight services have a limited reach. The cost is the most discouraging factor hence, flights are used only by those who have the capacity to pay.

Taxi services are also popular in India but their popularity is limited among tourists and businessmen. The cost and the road conditions are discouraging factors. Nevertheless taxi hire and car rentals are big business. 

The bus service is one of the cheapest mode of transportation especially among the rural folks. The system is divided into metro or city buses, intercity and interstate buses. Most of the buses offer little comfort but off late luxury bus services are also available. The luxury bus segment is costlier but proves as excellent means of regular and alternate transportation.  The buses reach into the deep interiors hence prove to be irreplaceable for the local travelers.   Luxury coaches are also used for tourism in India.

Indian Railway outshines any other mode of travel in the country. It is the most extensive and economical means of transportation. The vast network of rails and stations facilitates millions to travel from one place to another in India. The system also offers economical goods transportation which is essential for the Nation on the move.

Travel in India is getting more and more organized. The booking system has also improved with the online rail booking facility. The internet has facilitated travel reservations and has made it more efficient. You can buy tickets on line for flights, buses and railways for all destinations.  Traveling using Internet based tickets requires one to have an identity proof as necessary. The accepted identity proofs are driving license, UID card and the  UTI  pan card issued by IT department.    

Essentials like food, water and medicines should always be carried along due to uncertain availability.  You luggage should be secured by chain and lock if necessary especially in rail cars.

India is a free country well almost. If you have your essentials right things wok out better. After the incidence of extremism in the country keeping your identity intact is of utmost importance. What I mean is that you should have documents to prove who you are. Your countenance and you yourself has no validity until unless you have been certified by external source who you are. 

The identity subscribes to not only you but your residential proof as well. You cannot go about carrying sales deed of your apartment or bunglow so thankfully the address is certified as well. You photo is also a way to prove who you are but it should be attached to the identity proof that you carry.  

This travel essential is a prerequisite during train travel, air journey, booking a hotels or for transactions in the bank. For inbound travelers the passport works under most circumstances but the original is required often so please carry it wherever you travel in India.    Be careful of pick pockets and thieves who are interested in your purse or money bag but the passport is the causality as well since they are tied together. 

For residents driving liscene is most handy since any way people carry it with them always. The other is the Pan Card issued by the Income Tax Department in the country. The recent addition is Addhaar Card also  called UID  Card issued by Unique Identification Authority of India.  Both of UID Card and Pan Card can be obtained online through an application. The status check can also be done online by those in hurry to receive one.  

Lot many other things like electricity bill or telephone bills will work but a certfied image is a must. Not only in hotels but even in cyber cafes all across the country an identity proof is required  though your mobile number may also work as last resource.
